The University of Tokyo Amgen Scholars Program 2026 offers outstanding undergraduate students from around the world a unique opportunity to conduct cutting-edge summer research in the life sciences and related fields at Japan’s top research institution.
This fully funded international research program aims to foster the next generation of scientists by providing hands-on experience in innovative laboratories under the guidance of world-class faculty at UTokyo. Scholars will engage in independent research projects, attend scientific seminars, and participate in cultural and academic exchange activities.
The program also connects participants to the global Amgen Scholars community, enabling them to build international research networks and career pathways in biomedical and pharmaceutical sciences.
Eligibility Criteria
Who can apply:
• Undergraduate students enrolled in colleges or universities outside Japan.
• Must have completed at least one year of undergraduate study by the time of application.
• Must not have graduated before the start of the program.
• Strong academic performance and keen interest in biomedical, life sciences, chemistry, or related research fields.
• English proficiency is required (TOEFL, IELTS, or equivalent proof for non-native speakers).
• Students from any country are welcome to apply.
Funding / Coverage
• Fully funded by the Amgen Foundation.
• Includes:
– Round-trip travel to Japan.
– Free accommodation on or near campus.
– Living stipend (approx. ¥280,000 per month).
• Scholars will also receive support for local transportation and cultural activities.
