• Meet University of Exeter PhD admission requirements

The Maximising Regional Benefit in Eco-Industrialisation PhD Studentship is a fully funded research opportunity designed for outstanding candidates interested in sustainable industrial transformation, environmental strategy, and inclusive regional economic growth.

This interdisciplinary PhD seeks to understand how eco-industrialisation—industrial development aligned with environmental sustainability—can create positive social, economic, and ecological outcomes for UK regions and beyond.

Students will work closely with leading researchers at the University of Exeter to examine pathways for sustainability-driven industrial policy, green innovation systems, and regional development models that combine environmental protection with equitable growth.

The program equips scholars with high-level research, analytical, and policy skills, preparing graduates for impactful careers in academia, public policy, environmental governance, sustainable development consulting, and green-industry strategy.

Ideal for students passionate about sustainable industrial systems, climate-aligned economic development, regional resilience, environmental policy, and transitioning industries to greener futures.

Funding / Coverage
EPSRC Doctoral Landscape Award Studentship Package
(Full Funding for 3.5 years)

• Full tuition fee waiver (Home rate)
• Annual maintenance stipend at UKRI/EPSRC standard rate
• Research Training Support Grant (RTSG) for research costs, conferences, equipment, and fieldwork
• Access to University of Exeter research networks, training programs, and doctoral development resources

• Highly competitive, especially for international candidates
• Covers tuition at home rate; international applicants may need to cover fee differences unless stated otherwise
