The Japanese Government (MEXT) Teacher Training Scholarship 2026–2028 is a fully funded professional development opportunity for experienced teachers from eligible countries to undertake advanced training and educational research in Japan.
The program is designed to strengthen teaching capacity, improve educational practices, and foster international cooperation in education. Selected candidates will be placed at Japanese national universities where they will engage in research related to their teaching fields while also receiving Japanese language and cultural training.
This opportunity is ideal for in-service teachers seeking international exposure, advanced pedagogical skills, and global networking within Japan’s highly regarded education system.
Eligibility Criteria
Who can apply:
• Nationals of countries with diplomatic relations with Japan
• Must not hold Japanese nationality
• Born on or after 2 April 1991
• Graduated from a university or teacher training institution
• At least 5 years of teaching experience at primary, secondary, or teacher training institutions
• Strong professional motivation and adaptability to living in Japan
• Willingness to learn Japanese
• Medically fit (health certificate required)

• Monthly stipend of approximately ¥143,000 (with possible regional allowance)
