Eligibility Criteria

• Open to individual journalists and writers

• Applicants must be nationals or permanent residents of:
– United States
– People’s Republic of China (including Hong Kong and Macau)

• Professional or emerging writers with demonstrated writing experience

• Strong interest in U.S.–China relations, cross-cultural dialogue, or international affairs

• Ability to complete and publish the proposed project by December 2026

The Melvin MS Goo Writing Fellowship is a competitive grant program supporting journalists and writers whose work fosters greater understanding between the United States and China. The fellowship funds original, in-depth writing projects that explore cultural, social, political, or economic issues shaping U.S.–China relations. Selected fellows receive financial support to research, write, and publish impactful work aimed at broad public audiences in both countries.

Fellowship support includes:

• Two grants of USD $10,000 (one per fellow)
