The Master Thesis Opportunity at IKEA of Sweden 2025 invites innovative and visionary Master’s students to explore how connectivity can transform kitchen life.
Running from mid-January to June 2026, this unique thesis project focuses on developing strategic insights and practical use cases for integrating smart, connected technologies into IKEA’s global kitchen and appliance portfolio.
Students will work with the Range Area Kitchen & Appliances team in Älmhult, Sweden, the heart of IKEA’s design and development operations. The aim is to identify meaningful applications of connected technologies that enhance convenience, sustainability, and user experience — ultimately shaping the Kitchen of Tomorrow.
Through a mix of academic research, stakeholder collaboration, and market analysis, you’ll deliver actionable strategies that could influence the future of IKEA’s product innovation.
Eligibility Criteria
Who can apply:
• Master’s-level students currently enrolled in a recognized university.
• Students eligible to conduct a thesis project as part of their studies (January–June 2026).
• Academic background in Computer Science, Interaction Design, Industrial Design, Innovation Management, or related disciplines.
• Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
• Visionary mindset — the ability to imagine and design for life 10–20 years into the future.
• Passion for kitchen life at home — including cooking, socializing, and sustainable living.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills in English.
• Ability to work independently and remotely, with flexibility for visits to Älmhult, Sweden.
Funding / Compensation
• This is a thesis collaboration opportunity — not a paid internship.
• Students gain mentorship, research support, and access to IKEA’s design, innovation, and business strategy teams.
• Travel expenses for visits to Älmhult may be partially supported depending on arrangements.
• Students retain authorship and academic recognition for their final thesis.

Your Key Responsibilities
• Analyze IKEA’s existing kitchen-appliance portfolio to identify gaps and opportunities.
• Research emerging technologies and global trends in connected home appliances.
• Conduct workshops with university experts, IKEA designers, and stakeholders.
• Develop and evaluate potential use cases that enhance user value and align with IKEA’s brand vision.
• Produce a User Case Framework and a Strategic Recommendation Report highlighting the most promising connectivity opportunity for IKEA
