The Loughborough University Sanctuary PhD Scholarships 2026/2027 are fully funded doctoral scholarships designed to support talented scholars whose academic journeys and personal safety have been affected by conflict, persecution, displacement, or humanitarian crises.
The programme reflects Loughborough University’s commitment to providing access to higher education for individuals facing serious threats or instability in their home countries.
Selected scholars will receive full tuition support and a generous annual stipend to pursue PhD research at one of the United Kingdom’s leading universities. The scholarship provides an opportunity for at-risk academics to continue their education, contribute to global research, and build a secure future within a supportive academic environment.
Eligibility Criteria
• Must apply for a postgraduate research (PhD) programme at Loughborough University
• Must receive a conditional or unconditional PhD offer before scholarship application
• Must demonstrate strong academic achievement and research potential
• Must be considered an “at-risk scholar” due to conflict, persecution, displacement, or threats to safety
• Must meet the academic entry requirements of the chosen PhD programme
Funding / Scholarship Benefits
Scholarship includes:
• Full tuition fee coverage
• Annual stipend of £21,805 (UKRI recommended rate)
• Funding for up to 3 years of full-time PhD study
