The King’s Foundation Oxford DPhil Scholarships support outstanding doctoral students committed to advancing research at the intersection of nature, health, and wellbeing.
These prestigious, fully funded scholarships enable students to explore how environmental, social, and community-based factors influence physical and mental health. The program fosters interdisciplinary research spanning primary care, public health, environmental health, social sciences, community wellbeing, and health systems innovation.
Scholars receive full home-fee funding, a generous annual stipend, research support, and exclusive access to academic mentorship from Oxford faculty, The King’s Foundation specialists, and the Global Centre on Healthcare & Urbanisation.
The scholarships also include opportunities to collaborate on real-world projects and contribute to the development of the Health & Wellbeing Centre at Highgrove (opening 2027).
Ideal for researchers passionate about the impact of nature, community design, and social environments on population health.
Eligibility Criteria
Who can apply:
• Applicants to the DPhil in Primary Care Health Sciences
• Domestic (UK) and international applicants
• Applicants with strong academic backgrounds in relevant fields:
– health sciences, medicine, public health, social sciences, environmental studies, wellbeing, policy, or related disciplines
• Demonstrated interest in nature–health interactions, prevention, or wellbeing research
• Evidence of academic potential (research experience, writing samples, publications, etc.)
• Ability to meet Oxford graduate admission requirements
• Strong alignment with scholarship themes
• Note: Overseas applicants must fund the difference between Home and Overseas tuition unless they secure additional funding
Funding / Coverage
King’s Foundation DPhil Funding Package
(Full Funding for 3 Years – Fee Liability Period)
• Full Home-rate tuition coverage
• Annual stipend of at least £20,000, above standard UKRI minimum
• Research and fieldwork expenses
• Mentorship from Oxford academics + The King’s Foundation
• Opportunities to run workshops, conferences, and policy-relevant events
• Placement at The King’s Foundation Health & Wellbeing Centre (from 2027)
• Access to Kellogg College academic community and GCHU resources
Additional Notes:
• Only up to three scholarships are awarded
• Highly competitive; strong proposal alignment is essential
• International students can apply but must fund the fee difference unless they secure external support
