 Eligibility Criteria
Who can apply:

• Open to both UK and international applicants (note: only one scholarship may be awarded to an international candidate)

• Relevant academic background (arts, humanities, social sciences, creative industries, development, cultural studies, etc.)

• Strong academic performance and research potential

• Clear interest in African creativity, culture, and global influence

• Submission of:
– Research proposal (max 1,500 words + references)
– CV
– Personal statement
– Academic transcripts (with translations where necessary)
– Two academic references from official institutional emails

• Must meet King’s College London PhD admission requirements

The African Creativity Beyond Borders PhD Scholarships are fully funded research opportunities for exceptional candidates interested in the richness of African creativity, cultural influence, artistic innovation, and interdisciplinary cultural research.

This PhD initiative invites scholars to explore how African creative practices, cultural expressions, and artistic industries shape global narratives, intercultural connections, and sociocultural development. The programme welcomes applicants from diverse academic backgrounds who are committed to pushing the boundaries of creativity-focused scholarship.

Working with leading researchers at King’s College London, students will engage in advanced research that examines African creative ecosystems, cultural exchange, arts-based methodologies, and the transformative power of creativity across societies.

The programme is ideal for students passionate about African arts, cultural studies, social sciences, global cultural flows, identity, creative economies, and innovative interdisciplinary approaches.

Funding / Coverage
African Creativity Beyond Borders Fully Funded Studentship Package
(Full Funding for 3–4 years)

• Full tuition fee coverage (home or international rate)
• Annual maintenance stipend (UKRI standard — £22,780 for 2025/26)
• Research training, academic development, and supervision support
• Funding for workshops, conferences, and related research activities

Additional Notes:
• Extremely competitive — especially for non-UK applicants
• Visa fees and UK Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) not covered
• International applicants should budget for additional immigration costs
• Ideal for students strongly aligned with African creative and cultural studies
