Location: Hosted at CIFOR-ICRAF Office, Bonn, Germany, with field research opportunities in CGIAR++ partner countries worldwide.

The Germany–CGIAR++ Science and Impact Hub offers PhD and Junior Scientist Scholarships designed to connect Germany’s leading research institutions with CGIAR++’s global network. The program empowers early-career researchers to develop impactful solutions across food, land, and water systems while contributing to global sustainability goals.
Funded by BMZ and commissioned by GIZ through the Fund International Agricultural Research (FIA), the initiative fosters collaboration, innovation, and interdisciplinary research between German universities and CGIAR++ centers worldwide.
Eligibility Criteria
Who can apply:
• Early-career researchers and PhD candidates from Germany and CGIAR partner countries.
• Applicants engaged in research on agriculture, environment, food security, land use, or water systems.
• Candidates interested in jointly supervised PhD programs or junior scientist roles with international field experience.
• Strong academic background and commitment to sustainable development research.
Funding / Coverage
The scholarship provides:
• Full or partial funding for PhD studies or junior research positions.
• Opportunities for joint supervision and international field experience.
• Access to capacity-building modules, lectures, and mentorship.
• Support for conferences, networking, and research dissemination.
• Inclusion in an alumni and collaboration network under the Germany–CGIAR partnership.
