The University of Gothenburg Doctoral Position in Peace and Development Research 2026 is a fully funded PhD opportunity for talented researchers interested in global governance, human rights, migration, and international relations. The position is part of an international research project examining how democratic states respond to transnational repression carried out by authoritarian governments against diaspora communities and political activists abroad.

The doctoral candidate will conduct original research on host-state responses to transnational repression, focusing on legal, institutional, and policy mechanisms used to protect individuals and communities targeted by foreign governments. The project may involve comparative research across Nordic and Baltic countries, including Sweden, Norway, and Estonia.

The position includes full doctoral employment, supervision by leading scholars, access to international research networks, and opportunities for fieldwork and collaboration with researchers across Europe.
