The University Recommended MEXT Scholarship 2026 offers fully funded opportunities for outstanding international students to pursue Master’s or Doctoral programs at the Graduate School of Science, The University of Tokyo.
This program aims to foster talented individuals who will act as bridges of friendship between Japan and their home countries, contributing to the development of both nations and the wider global community.
Eligibility Criteria
*Applicants must be international students with excellent academic records (GPA 2.30 or higher).
*Must be born on or after April 2, 1991.
*Must have the nationality of a country with diplomatic relations with Japan.
*Applicants should apply for a Master’s or Doctoral Program in a field related to their previous study.
*Must meet English (IELTS 5.5+, TOEFL iBT 72+) or Japanese (JLPT N2+) language requirements.
*Must be physically and mentally healthy to study in Japan.
*Not eligible if residing in Japan or already receiving another MEXT scholarship.
Funding / Coverage
* Full tuition and enrollment fees
Monthly stipend:
*144,000 yen/month (Master’s)
*145,000 yen/month (Doctoral)
* Round-trip airfare (to and from Japan)
* Accommodation support at the University of Tokyo International Lodge (first year)
