The AI for Science Master’s Programme at AIMS South Africa is a fully funded, intensive one-year Master’s degree designed to train Africa’s next generation of scientists at the intersection of artificial intelligence, mathematics, and scientific discovery.
The programme equips students with strong foundations in mathematical sciences and modern AI techniques, enabling them to apply machine learning to real-world scientific challenges such as climate science, epidemiology, physics, ecology, and data-driven discovery.
Scholars benefit from world-class teaching, cutting-edge computing resources, and mentorship opportunities with researchers from Google DeepMind, preparing them for PhD studies, research careers, or advanced roles in AI and science.
Eligibility Criteria
Who can apply:
• Citizens or residents of African countries
• Hold a 4-year bachelor’s degree or a 3-year degree + honours
• Background in mathematics, physics, statistics, computer science, engineering, or related quantitative fields
• Strong academic performance and motivation
• Interest in AI, machine learning, and scientific research
• Must not have previously held an AIMS scholarship
