The 2026 Gender, Technology and the Law PhD Scholarship at the University of Technology Sydney supports outstanding doctoral researchers examining the intersection of gender justice, artificial intelligence, digital technologies, and legal regulation.
This fully funded scholarship allows a candidate to conduct innovative research on how AI systems, automated decision-making, and emerging technologies impact equality, discrimination, and legal frameworks. The program is designed for scholars committed to advancing gender equity in technology governance and law reform.
Recipients receive generous financial support along with access to UTS research facilities, expert academic supervision, and interdisciplinary collaboration opportunities.
Eligibility Criteria
• Domestic applicants (Australian citizens or permanent residents)
• Eligible for admission into a PhD in Law at UTS
• Master by Research or Bachelor with First Class Honours (or equivalent)
• Strong academic and research background
• Demonstrated interest in gender, technology, law, AI governance, or related fields
• Must obtain Faculty pre-assessment approval before submitting a full application
Funding / Coverage
• AUD $55,000 per year (tax-free stipend)
• Duration: 3.5 years (full-time)
