What is MEXT scholarship?


The MEXT scholarship, or the Japanese Government Scholarship, is a scholarship program offered by the Japanese government through the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT). The scholarship program aims to promote international exchanges between Japan and other countries by providing opportunities for highly qualified international students to study in Japan.


The MEXT scholarship is available for undergraduate, graduate, and research-level students, and covers tuition fees, travel expenses, and a monthly living allowance. The scholarship also includes a one-year Japanese language course for students who need to improve their language proficiency before starting their academic program.

What is the typical profile of person who can win the MEXT scholarship?

2. Demonstrates an interest in the Japanese language: In most cases, the MEXT scholarship doesn’t requires a high level of Japanese language proficiency. However, as many academic programs in Japan are conducted in Japanese, you will be expected to study after arrival. Candidates who have a JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test) certification or equivalent are often preferred.


3.Shows a strong commitment to their field of study: The MEXT scholarship is awarded to students who have a clear research plan and demonstrate a strong commitment to their field of study. Candidates who have relevant research or work experience are often preferred.


4. Has a global perspective and cross-cultural communication skills: The MEXT scholarship aims to promote international exchanges and cultural understanding between Japan and other countries. Candidates who have demonstrated cross-cultural communication skills or have participated in international events or programs are often preferred.


5. Has a strong character and leadership potential: The MEXT scholarship aims to support future leaders who can contribute to society through their academic and professional achievements. Candidates who have demonstrated leadership potential or have been involved in community service or extracurricular activities are often preferred.

Winning MEXT scholarship from application to arrival in Japan.

1. Research the scholarship: The first step is to research the MEXT scholarship and determine if you meet the eligibility criteria for the program. You should review the application requirements, deadlines, and program details to make sure you are qualified and prepared to apply.


2. Prepare application materials: The application materials for the MEXT scholarship typically include a completed application form, academic transcripts, letters of recommendation, a research proposal, and language proficiency test scores. You should carefully prepare each of these materials, ensuring that they are complete, accurate, and tailored to the requirements of the program.


3. Submit application: Once you have completed your application materials, you can submit your application to the Japanese embassy or consulate in your home country. You should follow the application guidelines carefully and ensure that you submit your application before the deadline.


4. Wait for selection results: After submitting your application, you will need to wait for the selection results. If you are selected, you will be notified by the Japanese embassy or consulate in your home country.


5. Prepare for arrival in Japan: Once you have been selected, you will need to prepare for your arrival in Japan. This will include obtaining a passport and visa, arranging travel plans, and preparing for the cultural differences and language barriers you may encounter in Japan.


6. Attend a pre-departure orientation: Before you depart for Japan, you may be required to attend a pre-departure orientation to learn more about the program, Japan, and Japanese culture. This orientation will help prepare you for your arrival in Japan and give you an opportunity to meet other scholarship recipients.


7. Arrive in Japan and begin the program: Once you arrive in Japan, you will need to complete various administrative tasks, such as registering with your university and obtaining a residence permit. You will also need to adjust to life in Japan and begin your academic program, which may include language courses or research activities.
