Hubs of Island Innovation (with partner universities and institutions)

The Hubs of Island Innovation – Mobility and Peer-Mentorship Program 2026 is a six-month international fellowship designed to strengthen climate adaptation and resource governance capacity in Small Island Developing States (SIDS). The program supports researchers and practitioners living and working in SIDS by providing advanced training, peer mentorship, and short-term mobility placements at world-class host institutions. Fellows develop locally grounded, policy-relevant solutions addressing climate change, sustainability, and resource security challenges unique to island contexts.

    Eligibility Criteria

    • Applicants must be living and working full-time in a UN-recognized Small Island Developing State (SIDS)

    • Open to early-career researchers, practitioners, and professionals

    • Demonstrated interest or experience in climate adaptation, resource governance, or sustainability

    • Focus on areas such as water, energy, food security, transport, infrastructure, or institutional capacity

    • Ability to commit to virtual training and at least one month of in-person mobility

    • Endorsement from home institution required (exceptions may apply for accessibility reasons)

    • Strong motivation to apply knowledge locally after the fellowship
    Funding / Fellowship Benefits
    Program support includes:

    • Up to CAD $12,000 to cover mobility, travel, and living expenses

    • Fully funded international placement (up to 2 months)

    • Access to a 10-week virtual training program

    • Peer-to-peer mentorship and expert guidance

    • Global networking with researchers, policymakers, and practitioners

    • Membership in the Hubs of Island Innovation alumni network
