Climate Compatible Growth Programme (CCG) & Partners

The EMP-A 2026 aims to strengthen energy planning and modelling capacity in Africa by supporting skills development, knowledge sharing, and institutional excellence in integrated energy systems.

Location: University of Cape Town, Cape Town, South Africa (with some online components)

    The EMP-A 2026 program will equip participants with practical skills and knowledge for integrated energy modelling and planning across Africa. Participants can join either one-off courses or extended Bootcamps (6–18 months) to develop outputs such as research papers, curriculum enhancements, or technical assistance. In this program, participants will:

    *Gain training in energy planning tools and open-source modelling software

    *Participate in self-paced online courses and hands-on in-person sessions

    *Develop national case studies and present findings to senior decision-makers

    *Access mentorship, technical support, and peer networking opportunities

    *Benefit from funding support for selected in-person participants
    Eligibility:

    *Professionals, researchers, or academics involved in energy planning and modelling in Africa

    *Completion of required Open University courses for the tool applied for, along with the “Modelling, Policy and Political Economy” course

    *Access to a computer with at least 8 GB RAM and stable internet for online participation
